So I had a visitor whom I think was just trying to be clever ask me if I thought those plastic Easter Eggs that split into two sections would make good cheap diversion safes, and to that I must say no. Think for a moment what the first thing is you do when you see one of those, generally you pick it up and shake it, if there is any noise you’re probably going to open it up to see what is inside.

Also keep in mind that you’ll want your diversion safes to blend in to not seem out of place with the other objects around it or else it will draw interest to anyone who may see it.

Anyways everyone, Happy Easter.

When traveling with prescription drugs and staying in hotels a medicine bottle can be the prime target of theft by the cleaning staff. If you are staying in a hotel that doesn’t have a safe in each room than I’d suggest you travel with a diversion safe to hide your drugs from any hotel staff that might be in your room when you’re not. Now keep in mind since you are traveling a lot of the normal diversion safes such as a stash can made out of a cleaning supply can will obviously be out of place.

I’d personally use a diversion safe such as this one that looks like a normal water bottle. Not only does it fit in with the things you’d have on vacation but most all people wouldn’t think that anything was hidden in a water bottle that they can see water in. As always keep your drugs away from children.

There is a rather untapped niche in the home security field. Most safes are designed in one of two ways, either to be fire resistant or resistant to tools. Fire resistant safes you’ll want to use to protect paper documents such as birth certificates and social security cards. Keep in mind that each safe is rated individually as to how long it could survive in a fire before the contents of the safe start to undergo extreme heat.

The other main way that safes are designed is to be resistant to attacks with tools, which is basically how hard they are for someone to open without the key or combination. Than of course diversion safes come along and offer another type of way to hide valueables, but I have yet to come across a fireproof diversion safe. I’d be interested in seeing what the first kinds might end up being.

These diversion safes are basically a normal can of soda that is emptied and that has a lid that screws on and off easily. You can normally get a cheap can safe for $10-20 online.

A can safe is not the best choice of diversion safe in my opinion just because they are too common compaired to most of the other types of hidden compartment devices. The only good place I can think of keeping a can safe is with other kinds of the same can, for example just putting your diversion safe as the last can in the back of the fridge.

Protecting valueable always comes down to other people not being able to get to the items you’re trying to protect. Although when it comes down to it a cheap diversion can safe is going to appear as a nice soft drink to anyone who sees it, and they just very well might try to open it, and than your secret stash is discovered.

Everyone will have their own opinion on what the best diversion safe is. Everyone has their own preferences ands likes with everything in life. So basically I figured I would give you a few pointers on what you should ask yourself to figure out what the best diversion safe for you is.

* Ask yourself what you plan on storing in your diversion safe to know what general size diversion safe you’ll need.
* Decide what room you want to keep your diversion safe, so you can buy one that wouldn’t be out of place.
* Pick your budget, if it’s a low budget you can probably make your own diversion safe. I’d suggest making a can safe if you were tight on money.

Once you have those three rather basic things decided you can start to look around for a diversion safe that would fit your needs. Most people start off with some kind of can safe since you can get them for under $20. Personally I prefer furniture diversion safes but those tend to always be on the expensive side.

One of the most popular kind of diversion safes over the years has been ones that are intended to hide a key. This makes sense to me, because it sucks to be locked out of your own house or car just because you left your key somewhere, that’s for sure when a hidden key can can come in handy in those circumstances.

I also see a few downsides to these kind of devices. For one, if for example you have a fake rock somewhere in your yard that has a hidden key inside it, then that means someone else can get that key just as easy as you can. So make sure that no one sees you when you go hide your key for the first time. I would also suggest moving the keys hidden location every time you return to it to use it.

Some tips I’d give anyone who uses a hide a key type of diversion safe to hide an extra key is to make sure the location is not obvious. Make sure the device blends in and that it won’t be found by some random person just wandering through your yard for whatever reason. Whatever you do, do not leave an extra house key under your welcome mat.

So today I was searching around on YouTube and found this pretty basic video on how to make a can safe, or I guess you could call it how to make a diversion safe. This one is rather basic and it probably won’t last forever but if you’re on a tight budget this might be a diversion safe solution for you. I’d suggest if you’re going to make a can safe like the one in the video to make sure to wash it out really good first though. If you can afford it though I’d highly suggest putting out the few bucks to get a higher quality stash can diversion safe. The ones you buy will most often be weighted to be the normal weight of the product container, and the overall look of the stash can diversion safe will be more realistic.

We as humans have this primal urge where we want to want to gather and hold on to items, especially those that hold material or sentimental value to us. There is always the risk of losing things in life, not many things in life would be more terrible than losing an object of great sentimental value or maybe an amount of cash that you kept in your house for an emergency situation to theft. Theft doesn’t always happen from some criminal that you’ve never met before breaking into your home, it could happen from someone who you thought you could trust, like a family member or a close friend.

Now most people know that a lot of people tend to hide things under their mattress. Since we all know that many people hide things under their mattress using that spot to hide something of your own doesn’t offer much protection for your items at all. Not all of us can afford to have an expensive safe bolted down somewhere in our house either. What about when you wanted to travel and couldn’t take the safe with you? If any of those things makes sense to you, you’d likely want to look into a diversion safe.

Picture this, someone is going through your things to try to find things of value to steal. They’re going to check the most common places first, just like with the mattress example. You don’t want to leave yourself exposed to falling victim of having your valuables stolen by leaving them somewhere they would be found easily. A way around this that is rather inexpensive, is with something called a diversion safe. A diversion safe is something that even when looked at wouldn’t appear to be anything could hold anything of value, maybe an aluminum beverage can or an aerosol can that looks just like the normal thing except contains a secret compartment. Essentially you can hide things in plain sight. Many of these type of devices have a bottom that will screw off that reveals a place to store anything you’d like, jewelry, money, a family relic passed down generation to generation, whatever it might be that you don’t want to be left out in the open for anyone to steal.

A diversion safe can come in many shapes and sizes, it is really limitless as they can be made out of virtually any household object and many varities are sold online.
