As you already probably know by now, there are many types of diversion safes out there since they can be made out of nearly anything. One of the most common and also most well known are book safes. It’s a fairly common sight in movies to see objects such as guns, keys or rock picks (for digging yourself through prison walls of course) hidden within book safes. One of the reasons why book safes have been so popular for so many years is because of how common books have became. With books being so common the odds of us having books laying around that we don’t have any interest in reading again is fairly common. Nearly all homes have books and theives are not going to think too much of seeing a book on a shelf, and odds very good they are not going to spend the time to open each book, they simply never tend to stay at the robbery scene for longer than they need to.

Another reason why book safes are so common is how easy they are for the average person to make. Simple take the biggest hard cover book that you are willing to part with, preferably 400 pages or more so you can have more space to store things inside of it. After you have that you’ll also need an exacto knife to cut your storage space out of the inside of the book. Go thirty or so pages from the start of the book and start to cut a rectange out of the center of the pages. Make sure to leave about an inch and a half around the boarder of the pages to make sure the book will still look normal. One you get the hang of this you’ll be able to press a little harder and cut through many pages at once, be sure to be careful as always when using sharp objects, but if you are smart enough to use the internet you should really know that by now.

Once you’ve gotten all your pages cut, leaving 30 or so at the back of the book uncut just like you did with the first 30, you’ll want to take some glue and brush it along the inside edges of the book along where you cut out, this will ensure that your book safe will remain strong. After this dries you will now have a perfect place to store small objects, money, whatever you’d like inside the book. Now just make sure to put it somewhere that it doesn’t look too out of place. Best of wishes to you all, keep your valueables secure.

Book safes would be a very smart idea. I have four shelves of books in my house. I doubt a theif would take the time to search them all.

Book safes seem smart as long as you have enough books to hide it amongst. MLIA mission complete.

    MLIA Mission.

This is a very good idea. I never thought about it, but now I now what I can do with my Twilight book. :3

I like the idea of book safes, but I honestly cringe at the thought of making one. I just like my books too much, also it’d just be my luck that a mate picks up the one book that I’d made into a book safe.

But like Brittany said, it’d take a determined thief to go through All of mine.

My only problem is that I’ll have a hard time parting with any of my books. Maybe my copy of Twilight. That’d be fun to cut up….;D

I think I’ll do this with a twilight book, after all… I have no use for it. MLIA mission completed. Thanks for the idea!
